Tigerwood Hardwood Flooring in Rocky Hill, CT – An Exotic Wood with Dramatic Natural Color

Rocky Hill, Connecticut 06067 | Tigerwood Flooring • Exotic Hardwood • Hardwood Floor Finishing

This Rocky Hill, Connecticut hardwood flooring project gave us an opportunity to work with something very different from the red oak and white oak floors we commonly see throughout Connecticut.

The homeowners in the Maple Street and Westerly Terrace area of Rocky Hill, CT 06067 wanted Tigerwood hardwood flooring in their living room. They specifically liked the dramatic appearance and natural variation that makes this exotic hardwood so distinctive.

Once the floor was completed, those characteristics really came through.

What Makes Tigerwood Flooring Different?

Tigerwood isn't supposed to have a perfectly uniform appearance.

That's part of its appeal.

Looking closely at the finished floor in the photograph, individual boards range from lighter golden and orange-brown tones to much deeper reddish-brown and dark brown sections. Some boards have pronounced grain and striping, while others are considerably more subtle.

That variation gives a Tigerwood floor movement and character that you simply don't get from a more uniform hardwood.

The photograph is especially useful because it shows exactly what we're talking about. Rather than showing a small flooring sample, you're seeing the variation across an actual completed living-room floor.

Some boards are relatively light. Others are considerably darker. Several contain striking changes in color within the same board.

That's the natural character the homeowners wanted to see.

Bringing Out Tigerwood's Natural Color

One of the most noticeable characteristics of this Rocky Hill floor is its warm color.

Tigerwood can display orange, reddish, golden and darker brown tones, and finishing the floor brings out those differences in a very dramatic way.

For these homeowners, we weren't trying to make every board look the same. Doing that would defeat much of the reason for choosing a wood like Tigerwood in the first place.

Instead, the goal was to allow the individual character of the hardwood to become part of the room.

The completed floor has a rich appearance without losing the natural variations that make this species interesting.

An Exotic Hardwood Can Completely Change a Room

Many of the hardwood floor refinishing and installation projects we complete in Rocky Hill involve traditional oak flooring. Oak remains a great choice, but an exotic hardwood creates a completely different look.

Tigerwood makes a statement.

The contrast between boards becomes part of the design rather than something we're trying to hide. In this living room, the finished floor became one of the major visual features of the space.

The homeowners knew they wanted something different, and this floor delivered exactly that.

Understanding Natural Variation Before Choosing a Hardwood

Projects like this are also a good reminder of why homeowners should understand the characteristics of a wood species before choosing it.

If someone wants every board to have nearly identical color and grain, Tigerwood probably isn't what they're looking for.

If they appreciate natural variation, darker streaks, warmer orange and reddish tones, and boards that can look noticeably different from one another, an exotic species like this can produce a beautiful floor.

That's why we like to discuss expectations before beginning a hardwood flooring project.

A photograph or a small flooring sample can help, but an entire room really demonstrates what the wood is going to look like.

A Beautiful Finished Tigerwood Floor in Rocky Hill

The completed living-room floor came out beautifully.

The different colors are what make it work. Rather than appearing manufactured or overly uniform, the floor has tremendous natural character. Depending on where you stand in the room and how the light hits it, different boards and grain patterns become more noticeable.

The homeowners wanted Tigerwood because they liked those characteristics, and the finished project gave them the rich, exotic appearance they were hoping for.

It's a great example of how choosing the right hardwood species can completely change the personality of a room.
