Cromwell, CT Hardwood Floor Refinishing — Giving Worn Prefinished Oak Floors a Beautiful New Look
Hardwood Floor Sanding, Custom Staining, and Oil-Based Polyurethane in Cromwell, Connecticut
A Fresh Start for New Homeowners in Cromwell
Buying a home is exciting, but sometimes the existing hardwood floors need attention before the new owners can settle in.
That was the situation with this project in Cromwell, Connecticut.
The homeowners had recently purchased the house and contacted Patrick Daigle Hardwood Flooring about the existing dark-stained, prefinished hardwood floors.
As the first photograph shows, the flooring had considerable surface wear and scratches, and the finish had lost much of its original appearance.
The homeowners liked the general color of the floor but wanted it restored to a much better condition.
Rather than replacing the hardwood, we discussed sanding off the existing finish, applying a similar stain color, and protecting the wood with oil-based polyurethane.
Sanding Away the Old Finish and Bringing Back the Natural Oak Grain
Our crew used professional dust-containment sanding equipment to remove the worn factory-applied finish and prepare the existing hardwood for staining.
One of the most noticeable differences after sanding was the appearance of the wood grain.
In the original photograph, the worn finish makes the flooring look relatively flat. But after refinishing, the natural oak grain and texture become much more visible.
The homeowners selected a stain similar to the original color, allowing them to maintain the darker appearance they liked while achieving a more attractive and consistent finish.
We then applied oil-based polyurethane to provide a protective surface and the traditional warmth the homeowners preferred.
Refinishing the Hardwood Staircase
The project also included refinishing a set of hardwood stairs.
Staircases are an important part of the overall appearance of a home, especially when they connect rooms with hardwood flooring.
We refinished the stair treads with a dark stain and protective finish to complement the newly restored floors.
The finished staircase features dark wood treads against white risers and balusters, creating a classic contrast.
Beautiful Results Without Replacing the Hardwood Floors
The completed project gave the new homeowners the appearance they wanted without replacing the existing hardwood flooring.
By sanding away the worn prefinished surface, restoring the wood grain, and applying a similar stain color with oil-based polyurethane, we were able to bring new life to the floors.
The staircase helped tie the finished spaces together.
This Cromwell project is a good example of how professional hardwood floor refinishing can transform an existing floor while preserving the original wood, provided there is sufficient material available for sanding.
