Bolton, CT Hardwood Floor Repair and Refinishing — Blending New Oak Flooring Into a Renovated Home

Hardwood Floor Installation, Repairs, and Bona NaturalSeal With Traffic HD Near Fish Family Farm

When Home Renovations Leave Gaps in Hardwood Floors

We recently completed an interesting hardwood flooring project in Bolton, Connecticut, in the Fish Farm area.

The homeowners were renovating their home, which involved removing walls and cabinets to create a different layout.

While these changes opened up the living space, they also created a challenge with the existing hardwood floors.

Areas that had once been covered by walls or cabinets were now exposed, leaving sections where hardwood flooring was missing or needed repair.

That's where Patrick Daigle Hardwood Flooring came in.

Our job was to install additional oak flooring, repair the affected sections, and sand and refinish the floors so the old and new wood would blend together.

Repairing Floors After Walls and Cabinets Are Removed

When a wall is removed, the flooring underneath doesn't always match the surrounding room. In some cases, there may be no hardwood beneath the original wall at all.

Removing cabinets can create similar problems, particularly when the original flooring was installed around them rather than underneath.

These repairs require more than simply placing a new board into an opening.

The replacement flooring must fit the existing layout, align properly with the surrounding boards, and be prepared for sanding and finishing.

Our in-house crew worked through the areas affected by the renovation, installing additional hardwood flooring where necessary and preparing the existing oak for refinishing.

Connecting the Existing Flooring After Wall Removal

One of the challenges involved an opening where the layout of the home had changed.

The second photograph shows the transition area and construction work surrounding the removed wall.

Whenever possible, we work to integrate new hardwood flooring with the existing boards rather than leaving an obvious patched section.

Careful fitting and sanding help create a continuous appearance across the renovated space.

A Natural Finish With Bona NaturalSeal and Traffic HD

After completing the installation and repairs, we sanded the flooring using our professional dust-containment sanding process.

For the finish, we selected Bona NaturalSeal followed by Bona Traffic HD, a two-component water-based polyurethane.

NaturalSeal helps maintain the lighter, natural appearance of oak without introducing a dark stain color.

Traffic HD provides a durable protective finish designed for demanding residential use.

The result was a brighter hardwood floor that brought the renovated spaces together while showcasing the natural oak grain.

Preserving Hardwood Floors During a Home Renovation

This Bolton project demonstrates why existing hardwood floors don't always need to be replaced when a home's layout changes.

With careful installation, repairs, and professional sanding, it's often possible to integrate additional wood into an existing floor.

The key is evaluating the original flooring, planning the repairs, and choosing a finish that helps bring everything together.

For this project, the homeowners selected a natural appearance that complemented the updated interior.
